National Museum of Qatar by Jean Nouvel
On March 28, 2019, the National Museum of Qatar was opened in Doha
(National Museum of Qatar), the building of which was designed by the French
Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel. On his it took ten years to build.
The unusual shape of the building, according to architect, was inspired by the
original outlines of the unique varieties of the mineral gypsum found
in desert sands. For a noticeable resemblance to the blossoming rosebuds,
this the mineral is called "rose of the sands" or "desert rose".
On an area of about 53 thousand square meters there are 11 historical
and art and galleries, which is a multisensory an environment full of installations
and artifacts that tells the story of Qatar. The interiors were designed by the Spanish
company Empty with the participation of the studio Acciona. The culmination and
finale of the gallery path is the reconstructed palace of Sheikh Abdullah ibn
Jasim Al Thani, who also tells about the dialogue between modernity,
history and tradition..
The museum is surrounded by a park of 112,000 square meters,
designed by landscape architect Michel Devigne. The gardens of
the park are home to native trees and plants, illustrating
natural features and original flora of Qatar.
